Our Board and History

​In 1995, the Foundation was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) entity and awarded its first two scholarships in its first year. For the 2023-2024 school year, the Foundation awarded 20 scholarships in 14 different categories.  In total, over 338 scholarships worth over $253,000 have been awarded in the past 29 years.

All Board Members are volunteers and receive no compensation. Annual operating expenses are less than 1% of our assets.

Meet Our Board

Sally Alvis

Sally Alvis joined the Scholarship Foundation Board in 2016. She is a retired elementary school teacher from the Cypress School District after teaching for 38 years in grades 2 to 6 in Cawthon, Dickerson and Arnold schools.

Carol Erbe

Carol Erbe has been a Board member since 2015. She is a former teacher in the Long Beach school district. Before her retirement in 2018, she served as principal at Damron, Cawthon, King and Arnold Schools in Cypress.

Richard Lutz

Richard Lutz is one of the founding members of the JFK Scholarship Foundation and has acted as the Secretary since its inception in 1995.

Donna McDougall

Donna McDougall has been a Board Member of the Scholarship Foundation since 2011. She is a retired first grade teacher from the Savanna School District and is a retired Board Member of the Cypress School District having served 26 years on the Board.

Brian O'Neal

Brian O’Neal is a founding Board Member of the Scholarship Foundation, and is its current President. He founded the Chris O’Neal memorial scholarship in his late wife’s name, which emphasizes community volunteerism.

Mary Paningsoro

Mary has been a Board Member of the Scholarship Foundation since 2018.  She has been a resident of Orange County for over 35 years and the City of La Palma for almost 30 years.

Grace Lee

Grace Lee joins as the newest Board Member of the Scholarship Foundation in 2021.  She is a John F. Kennedy High alum and the 2002 recipient of the Eva Lutz Memorial Scholarship.
