Our Board and History

​In 1995, the Foundation was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) entity and awarded its first two scholarships in its first year. For the 2024-2025 school year, the Foundation awarded 19 scholarships in 13 different categories.  In total, over 357 scholarships worth over $276,000 have been awarded in the past 29 years.

All Board Members are volunteers and receive no compensation. Annual operating expenses are less than 1% of our assets.

Carol Erbe

Carol Erbe has been a Board member since 2015. She is a former teacher in the Long Beach school district. Before her retirement in 2018, she served as principal at Damron, Cawthon, King and Arnold Schools in Cypress.

Richard Lutz is one of the founding members of the JFK Scholarship Foundation and has acted as the Secretary since its inception in 1995.

Donna McDougall

Donna McDougall has been a Board Member of the Scholarship Foundation since 2011. She is a retired first grade teacher from the Savanna School District and is a retired Board Member of the Cypress School District having served 26 years on the Board.

Brian O'Neal

Brian O’Neal is a founding Board Member of the Scholarship Foundation, and is its current President. He founded the Chris O’Neal memorial scholarship in his late wife’s name, which emphasizes community volunteerism.
